Thanks, SW.
Doing good gets me out of my own head.

Service is a key foundation of AA. They almost called it "The James Club" because they felt The Book of James, which focuses on service, was so important.

I used to do good things to feed my ego. Now I do good things to carry God's love to others.

100%
The week after I stopped drinking I put in to volunteer for a mental health charity. It took a couple of months for it to go through (checking references and DBS check) but I started a couple of weeks ago and it's the best in the world. I wouldn't say it was altruism though because I think I get more out of it than the charity does out of me.

Amen to that, brother! A simple universal truth that so often gets ignored in the seemingly endless rush toward self-improvement.
