Over 3 years sober now, man does time fly!!
Over 3 years sober (02/17/2014)
And while I'm at it, a belated Merry Christmas, Happy New Years, and new American president to all
Time just FLIES by, or so it seems

I would say the two biggest "highlights" from the last 3 years are:
- Lost almost 100 lbs, I was a mess health-wise in early 2014 (thanks in large part to my heavy beer/alcohol consumption) and tipped the scales at 265-270 lbs, I was weighing myself the other day and I'm down to a much more healthy 167 lbs. I can see my jaw-line again. And by beer belly? Gone! Guys, LISTEN to the "low carb" people, it WORKS, and alcohol is a particularly BAD form of carbohydrates to be ingesting on a regular basis. Alcohol is bad news bears for your body.
- I stabilized my financial situation considerably, and finally managed to pay off some $30k+ in student loans last year. I still carry a small credit card balance to boost my credit, but the worst (student loans) is behind me and will never threaten me again. I can't tell you how relieved I feel to see "Paid in Full" when I log into my student loan home page. My new philosophy going forward is to avoid new debts as much as possible, with the exception of "profitable" debts such as a mortgage for example. I'll certainly never take out a student loan ever again, live and learn
Of course, staying the course and NOT relapsing is a "highlight" in and of itself

Just FYI I didn't use AA or any "program" either. I just decided enough was enough and quit on my own, this forum was quite helpful of course. The forum was particularly helpful in explaining the "whys" of how I was feeling, and reading other people's success stories was tremendously helpful and encouraging
I was in a bad way, in a dark place in Jan/Feb 2014, looking back I am soooooo glad I quit (for myself, for my family, etc)

Just a quick side-note for the mods, I'm not sure "what" it is, but the forums seems to randomly crash a lot or return "page not found" type errors. I had actually meant to post this last weekend, but the forum simply would not load the "Post New Thread" page. Finally today, by chance, my post seemed to "go through"
I was wondering if anyone else has experienced these strange "HTTP page not found" errors. I even tried posting from my phone, but it didn't work from there either.

With any luck, that was the first and LAST time I ever go through that "withdrawal" hell. I went like 2 weeks with no sleep and that's NOT a fun experience or even something I would wish on my worst enemy! That's the kind of thing you can die from!!
Here's to (yet another) quiet, un-eventful, alcohol-free Friday at home
