What a Difference a Year Makes...
Last year on Xmas eve, I had a horrible cold, and was trying to fight off withdrawals between relapses with benzos. As soon as I got back from visiting my family, I started drinking in secret again. Not only did my cold last for seven weeks, but my entire life disintegrated in about the same stretch of time.
This year, I have a cold. Bummer. But it already feels like it will go away soon. Tomorrow, I will be sober for 10 months. And for the first time in my 40 years on this planet, I feel like I have a reasonable amount of control over my own life.

So we are 'bout the same... This time last year is a place I needed to revisit in my mind (what I remember of it). A post from the past, return address- 'from hell'.
Much better now. Strength in unity. PJ

Update--The Christmas/Solstice/Yule week was a great success. I have passed ten months sober, after throwing away 3+ years of sobriety last fall, my wife and I had a lovely celebration here by ourselves, and I have confirmed that colds don't last seven weeks when your immune system isn't shattered by pills and vodka.
I'm looking forward to the New Year, with the promise of a fresh year of sobriety ahead of me. I also start my second semester of graduate school, after leaving the program last year to get sober. And, as part of my graduate program, I go on a two week meditation retreat every semester, and this semester's retreat begins on my one year sobriety date.
Good stuff.
