Facebook and Sobriety?

Hey there,
I hope everyone is having a good hump day! Wanted to get everyone’s opinion on Facebook and sobriety? Personally, I decided to get off of it because I felt like it was messing with my serenity. Resentments, jealousy and annoyance basically. I’d like to avoid them at all cost. I do miss catching up with old friends who live far away but I don’t feel it’s worth my sobriety. I also read recently that the guy (we’ll call him Mr. Z.) has begun fabricating news which contributes to my thought that the site is just plain narcissistic.

I was on it a few years then I got off of it.
There is good and bad in everything. I started a where and when for meetings in the southern part of my state.

That being said, there is a ton of drama on fb.
Should I ever feel the need to rejoin, I'd limit what went in my newsfeed.
Civility seems dead especially online.

as a drunk im an extreme example of self will run riot

just like my drinking was out of control ....

my thinking about myself was out of control

service to others has been the largest contributor to my intact sobriety date

I don't mind FB even tho I don't use it
for chatting. I mainly use it to connect
to Golf, Sobriety/Recovery, interests
in spiritual quotes, tattoos, beauty,
hair, foods, motorcycles.....

I have a few connections to folks
for emergency like one family
member and they can spread
the word if needed or AA sponsor/
AA friends all to stay connected
thru the internet and not the
phone.

I get all sorts of news, information
that can benefit me in a healthy,
happy, honest, sober way.

I think if it puts your sobriety at risk, it would be wise to dump it. I use facebook as a tool. I use it to promote my career and essential communication. I know its a social network, but I don't do much socializing on it.

For me, I don't think it has an effect on my sobriety at all; however I do get sucked in reading all the gossip. What a waste of time! But I do use FB as a means of communication for my running groups, neighborhood community news, hobbies & interests, and much easier to see friends pics than email.
I have found it useful to hide newsfeed of those who post waaay too much or from those that annoy. Oh, and those who always post those memes that are supposed to be funny about drinking.

Thanks for all of your helpful insight. I have stayed off of Facebook for the better part of 6 months and i feel much better about my sobriety. There is too much drama and dysfunction there and i believe it's best i stay off and try focus on my recovery and others. I was on briefly today to see if there was any info on my buddies wedding which is in May '17. It was kind of funny i definately felt some anxiety while on there.
