When we change how we look at things...

When we change how we look at things, the things we look at change.

I'm sure you've all heard or seen this quote at some point.

Today, while looking for an appropriate picture for the LOLG post, I stumbled across this one:

In the past, I would have thought "how devoted and loving."

Now I think "how incredibly unhealthy."

Do you guys think this is serious or a joke? I'm not really sure, myself.

I think it's meant to be serious, but some of us have learned the hard way that it really is a joke.

It sounds obsessive to me... whoever wrote that made someone their entire life. "Caring for you is my job" is the creepiest line IMO. Maybe a parent wrote this about their child?

For me, "making you happy is my duty" was the creepiest line, Expanding, but "caring for you is my job" is right up there with it.

Maybe it's a poster for Codependents Anonymous or something!

I think it's unhealthy and creepy. Although, it must be said: creepy is one of my favorite words, and I shirk no opportunity to use it. So...definitely unhealthy, maybe creepy.

In a sick way, it is incredibly funny. I def vote that it is meant to be serious, but if you have examined life at all or been in the kind of relationship I have, it sounds downright lunatic. Thanks for sharing.

Could be talking about a small child perhaps? If so - "making you happy" is still off...

If it is about grown-ups - totally off

I am hoping that they meant it to be sarcastically ridiculous, but even if they didn't, I am so grateful that I see it that way!

I think it was serious.
I, also, suspect that it was written by someone who was newly "in love" and wearing the usual rose colored glasses.

Sounds like a lot of wedding vows that I have heard......

that is so hard.. but true.. as a Mom I am devoted to my children no matter how old they get or what they do.. as a Wife first time around waited on him hand and foot.. and then learned he had someone on the side.. poooo.. second time around he is sick all the time.. Devoted.. I do it all kids I do it all.. the only thing I have not had to do is give birth again. that I thank God for every once in awhile... love my Hubby but he lives for himself and that is it.. water runs for hours.. lights always on.. will have all of his Dad's stuff including the car at our little house and he was making noise last night on the space I take up.. looked at him picked up an arm load of elegant glass ware for the table and dropped it in the trash... I have less stuff . correct.. and I am the problem... Devoted.. ... oh crap no .... unless he needs something.. and lies will not follow the path for long... sorry.. long weekend and tough Monday... ekekekekke why did we drink so much at one time..... gee I wonder why...

Reminds me of a song I started writing several years ago entitled:
"I am nothing without loving you"

There's a reason they call them "sweet nothings."

Haha - i think it's incredibly healthy if the author wrote it directed at themselves!

At the end with XABF, a song came on the radio - I can't even remember the song! (that feels good ) THe lyrics were all about someone loving and trying to help a crazy person. XABF said 'this song is like you talking to me." I said no - this song is like healthy me talking to sick me. He didn't get it.
