Day 31
Well, after 20 years or more of drinking at least a fifth of liquor a day (or more), I'm now on day 31 of complete sobriety. It's still a struggle for sure.
I have gained back about 10 of the 30 pounds I lost. My blood pressure is good now (it was 70/40 when I had to go to the hospital), have pretty good balance back, and am no longer using a walker. I'm walking around the lake every day. It hurts with my catheter, but the docs told me to walk. I've lost lots of income since I haven't been able to play a music gig in 2 months. At this point I might be able to perform, but the places I play are basically bars. I don't think that would be a good choice for me yet.
Thanks to all of you who welcomed me with words of encouragement when I first came here a few days ago.

CONGRATULATIONS!
You will undoubtedly get feeling better, get your strength back, and then what about when that 1st thought creeps back in ... It would probably be ok to just have ONE drink ... I should be able handle it now ...
That possibility is a GREAT reason to stay plugged in here.
again ... CONGRATULATIONS!

That's amazing WavyGravy, keep on going.
When I first came here I was given the advice to make sobriety my number one priority and don't get sidetracked from that.
Try not to worry about your loss of income (easy to say I know), make everything about your sobriety.
By the way, I'm entering you into the "coolest user name" competition, right beside Captain Haddock. It hasn't happened yet......but when it does...

I admire everything you're doing to stay sober, WavyGravy -- sure looks like it's working!
Here's to getting stronger and stronger in the next 31 days. Let us know when you get another music gig so we can celebrate with you!

Congrts on 31 days WavyGravy
I stayed away from music and bars for a while...when I did go back I knew that nothing or noone could sway me...
Still, I eventually gave up playing in bars because I found them (or the 'regulars') too sad and depressing....
