Hi everybody! I'm sort of new to recovery and here
I signed up on this site I think my profile reads about 6 months ago but really haven't used it since then. Perhaps this time I'll stick around this site more often.
I have 8 years clean, which I achieved by myself although it wasn't easy. I quit drinking at the same time but I relapsed on alcohol many times since then. currently my sober date is 8/12/2016, although it hasn't been easy either.
I been in and out of AA, worked a few steps in the past but a circumstance put a damper on that.
I need to pick up my pace of finding a new sponsor.

A good sponsor helps many.
That said, AA isn't for everyone.
Is there perhaps another underlying issue in need of addressing?
All good wishes.
the great thing is that there is a solution and you know what it is
i balked at the solution in my first year and ended up getting thrown into a locked psych ward
only when i became willing to follow direction did any recovery begin

For example a depressed person may turn to drugs and alcohol for a multitude of reasons...or none.
I'm sort of referring to the nature/ nurture aspect in it's entirety.
Many druggies and alcoholics have underlying issues that pushed them to the escapism of mind altering drugs. I am not saying people close to them should be overly tolerant;rather, I mean that causal factors, other than simply alcoholism or addiction per se need to be considered relevant to this.

While alcohol and drugs impact on us and others very adversely other issues ( and there are many) may be hidden and not open to inspection.

I believe *today* that one must reach a point where emotional mental breakdowns aren't allowed the ticket to drink. I have even drank over the current one but *I* have made I choice not to let those approve me of buying a bottle of bourbon or volka and drinking it nor even "just *a* beer", ect. , Hopefully it sticks.
