Getting sober vs staying sober... a Wednesday night Bug rambling
Just reflecting tonight...thought I would post. I have never been one who could wake up in a bad mood and be able to turn it around as the day progressed. I would start out moody and let it snowball until I fell into bed at night a dark and gloomy ball of spit and fire. But these last three months I have been able to wake up moody and then do a 180 and end the day happy and content. Today was one of those days. Instead of stewing, I was productive. Instead of isolating, I was open and receptive. Instead of being flat and emotionless I was outgoing and engaging. You see to me sobriety is more than putting down a drink or a drug, it is about making real changes in your life so that the need or desire to use is not there. Real changes to your habits, behaviors and beliefs. I believe that is not how you get sober, that is how you stay sober. Real personal change. Whatever means you use to make that change is up to you, as long as you do what works for you. And you keep it up! What I am doing is working for me so I am going to keep on trucking down recovery road.. with a good mood!
