Allergies...
Most of my adult life I have suffered from respiratory allergies...as in sneezing a zillion times, puffy eyes, swollen nose, particularly in the mornings and certain seasons of the year.
Today it hit me...it's goldenrod and ragweed season and it's dry and windy. I should be sneezing my face off. So at 8 months sober this Thursday, I just realized that all those years of drinking "healthy" wine was just keeping my poor body in a constant state of allergic response. Who knew.
Some days I feel like I owe my body a thank you note and a long apology!

There are sulphites in most wine that can cause that kind of allergic response.
Sulphites are also in some kinds of fruit juice and other foods and beverages as a preservative - I always check labels and avoid where I can.
MSG is another substance that causes a reaction in me.
