91 Days clean from pills and booze
3 months ago I hit my bottom. Today I'm sitting happy, joyous, and free. I didn't believe I would ever be happy again.
I tried everything I could to control the drinking and drugging. At the end I was up to 300mg Oxy and 1-2 handles of Vodka per week. Life was unmanageable and I was on my way to an early grave (I'm 28). While withdrawing (a miserable 30 day process) it was suggested I attended AA. I knew I had a problem (I've known since I was 20), but I didn't want to be labeled as an alcoholic or addict. I finally stopped lying to myself and admitted it. The program has literally saved my life and turned around my relationship with my significant other, her kids, and my family.
I've dealt with a friend passing in tragic car accidents, unemployment, a dying grandmother, and back surgery in those 91 days; and I haven't needed to drink or use to get through it.
I just want to give everyone some hope that there is light on the otherside! 75% of my problems went away through abstinence and the other 25% are totally manageable now. Here's to new beginnings!

I also want to point out a few things I've noticed that are different quitting this time around:
1. I admitted am an alcoholic and will always be one. My disease may someday go into remission, but if I don't do things to keep my disease at bay I will relapse.
2. I am doing this for myself. No one else. Previously I got sober for jobs, girls, etc. This time it's for me.
3. If I drink or drug, my disease will progressively get worse. As I read through my old posts on here I watch my usage increase EVERYTIME I have relapsed. I pick up right where I left off, and that is a dark and gloomy place that I never want to experience again.
4. I am talking almost daily with other alcoholics (from all different walks of life). I am hearing their stories and how they got and stayed sober. I have yet to talk to someone and not get something out of it.
5. I'm not afraid to admit when I'm feeling weak. In the past I've bottled everything up inside me. This time I'm laying all my cards on the table. People are calling me on my ******** and I'm able to work to solve the issues.
Sorry for rambling a little, but I want to let people know what's working for me right now. Hopefully someone will take a little something from this so they don't have to suffer and be as miserable as I was.

OP here. I stopped counting days and coming on here as much cause I've been living life to its fullest! I looked at the calendar today and noticed I've made it to day 357. Holy ****! Almost a year!
Hope everyone in SR is staying true to their program! Life is soooo much better on the sober side!
