Lurker for a while. Just failed on day 2.
One day at a time. I'm 50. Had been drinking for a long time and trying to quit for years. When I realized I didn't have to think about anything more than just not drinking today, things got easier for me.
Hey if the separation is new (less than 2 years) there might be a lot of stuff in your head and heart weighing you down.
Start filling up some big notebooks on how you are feeling, what's going through your mind, what drives you to the point of - yep I'm drinking.
Record the date and time of each entry. You will start to quickly see a pattern and the way of thinking you are caught in. Let the books fill up... Empty your heart and head of the old and current stuff to make space for new ways of thinking and feeling.
From this you can build a plan..
When ex texts - I grab a drink.. Now I turn phone off
When on my own I feel like crap so I grab a drink - now I go for a run/Hoover the house/clean the bathroom... Etc etc etc..
You are at the start... Make a plan my friend.
