Recently clean off of H and trying Suboxone
Howdy,
On January 16th, I ditched my heroin habit. Cravings have been intermittent, but scary at times. I even attempted to score once and (luckily) got burned, so still clean.
This week I am going to a clinic to receive a suboxone prescription. I've never taken it as prescribed or used it as a real tool to assist with cravings.
What can I expect from it? Will this medication really mitigate my jonseing for heroin? I only snorted, never slammed, so there's no addiction to the needle. And I never enjoyed getting rocked, just preferred small amounts throughout the day to maintain a gentle high. I know Suboxone won't feel recreational, but what WILL it feel like?
Thanks in advance!

I don't have experience with being clean and then trying a medication-assisted-treatment; I just got clean. I do, however, know that everyone is different. I also suggest taking a look at the Substance-Use Forum as well as here; lots of thoughts and ideas. You're lucky to be able to receive a suboxone script,.....so many in my area can't get as not enough docs prescribing. In addition to here, I also know NA (Narcotics Anonymous) was key in my recovery. Glad you are here!

Well, I experience intense cravings, and I was told that suboxone would help with those. Perhaps I don't NEED it, but I think I do need it. Yes the physical withdrawal is over, however mentally I feel a very strong pull towards the drug that nearly took my life. I'm not sure how long I can hold out.
Thanks everyone for your input! I will check out the other substance abuse forums specifically for my type of illness.

I'm not a doctor but I think suboxone is for the physical withdrawal.
I would talk to the doctor at the clinic to confirm. I know a couple people who abuse suboxone. Just sharing what I know.
Perhaps counseling could help you.

Do what you want. Suboxone withdrawal isn't pretty though.
This forum doesn't permit giving medical advice, so I won't. That said, you've been clean for two months. Why do you want to get hooked again? Cravings for any drug we once used with two months clean is NORMAL for an addict. They go away over time. We just get used to immediate gratification. - In recovery I learned that all feelings pass, and just because it itches doesn't mean I have to scratch.
Have you Gone to Narcotics Anonymous?
