Damn. 48 days.
It's been 48 days?!?! How did this even happen? Oh right, I gave up. Went to hang out with friends tonight. I was a little anxious to see folks drinking. I noticed:
1. I have a great time sober. I can laugh and be silly sober.
2. I feel ease because a bunch of them know I'm not drinking so I don't feel like I'm hiding anything
3. It was nice not having to worry about getting home or passing out on a couch.
4. It feels relieving not to have to be tracking the drinks - what is there to drink, how much, when..
5. I didn't have throw up
6. I didn't have to embarrass myself
7. I didn't have to deal with the alcohol not doing what it used to.
8. For a short moment I considered drinking with them but it just wasn't worth it.
9. Gotta find something to drink other than Diet Coke.

You can have reasons, or you can have results, but you can't have both.

I know, right? The time starts stacking up pretty quickly! Congrats.
For some nonalcoholic drinks to get your party on, here are my personal faves:
For some nonalcoholic drinks to get your party on, here are my personal faves:
- Virgin mojito (delicious, but not noncaloric)
- Club soda and lime juice (has a nice sparkle w/ a bitter bite and keeps the calories down)
- Virgin Mary (There are so many different ways this can be prepared, you can really customize it to your tastes and it counts as a vegetable serving! Your favorite bartender will love the opportunity to get creative with this.)

I just have my usual Gin and Ginger ale, rocks and a twist of lime, hold the Gin.
Congrats on the 48 days. I remember those starting months very well. I have recovered and will have six years next September. One drink now would have me worse than before in a few days. I'd likely never survive the relapse. That is what sober means. never drinking again because we are in total control of our sobriety. It's drinking I can't control. I liked drinking when it was voluntary, but not so much when it became mandatory first thing on waking to stop the shakes. I already drank enough for two lifetimes so being in denial and thinking that now that I'm healthy enough again to handle it just is never going to happen because of reading here. I see the regret when there is a relapse. But you can see them coming too. See you are now getting a taste of not feeling you are deprived of something you need and want. All drinking does is deprive us of our sanity along with our sobriety.
Welcome to the success in recovery club. All you have to do is not drink, repeat as necessary. If that ever seems hard go to a grade school yard/playground at recess or during sports practice. Now look at those kids being sober, not thinking about their next alcohol fix, or their supply. Even kids can do it. You are doing it too.
My sincerest congratulations and wishes for a long and sober life. The rest will take care of itself.

Just woke up. Gonna get coffee and ask God, the universe and everything to save me from judgemental thoughts so I can be content and help others. And to help me not eat cookies. Been overdoing it. . A sober friend told me his theme this year is to be right sized. I'm stealing that. Thanks soberwolf. How are you?
