Hello I am new here
I joined a little while back and have read some but thought I should post and introduce myself.
I have a daughter who is 21 and is addicted to drugs(oxycontin and cocaine)
This has been going on for about 7 years. I have unsuccessfully tried to get her to rehab. I stopped trying. Occasionally she will go to therapy on her own and go for a few months and quit. None of the therapists have ever addressed her drug addiction. She insists she has a personality disorder which causes her drug abuse but I really don't believe that. She tells me that she has to address her emotional issues before the drugs but I don't believe that either. How can you know what your true emotions are when you are self medicating with drugs?
She has lived with me on and off since she was 18(all the time before) and recently I put a stop to it as she was basically just using my place as a hotel and I didn't care for the seedy people calling or coming over.
She is supposed to be moving out west with her grandma today.
Well that is about it. Thanks for listening.

Hello there, Momof2,
Welcome to SoberRecovery. My name’s Sandy. I was a recreational alcoholic from age 16 to 25. I became a highly functioning alcoholic from ages 25 to 35. I then regressed to a low functioning alcoholic state from age 35 to 40, followed by a non-functioning alcoholic state from age 40 to 43. I have since been sober for around 45 days now.
It’s very nice to meet you.
Here are some online sources that have lots of information regarding drugs.

There are probably some local meetings going on in your area that can help you understand your child's addiction. Also SoberRecovery has multiple forums designed to help members with varying needs including those who have children using drugs. SoberRecovery also has online meetings and open chat.
I was thinking that maybe the rebellious attitude is from a lack of understanding of the disease and that if you could learn as much as you can about it, then you would have some leverage with your daughter. I realize she's gone now, but you may want to reach out to her again in time or she may decide to connect with you. She's so young, and it's never too late to come around. Look at me! So never give up Mom. And I want to add that you did the right thing by not giving in to her addiction.

Hi Mom,
Welcome to SoberRecovery. I will say a prayer for you and your daughter. I know how bad I hurt my Mom while in active addiction, and it took me many years to decide to get clean. I agree with Gabe about the friends and family forum. You might also want to try going to a nar-anon or al-anon meeting. There are people that are going through or have went through similair situations that can tell you how they got through it. Stick around, and keep posting. Sometimes just getting it out makes it feel a little better.
