Life just slaps you down

Offered a great job with formal offer letter, passed background, accepted a job and they rescinded the offer because they screwed up and did not have the budget.

Of course my alcoholic brain is working overtime wondering if my past caught up with me.

Crushed, absolutely crushed but guess who is sober and is planning on staying that way.

In a couple of weeks I won't have a job and it is back to a job search

sounds like they need a new financial manager????

that would be a tough go for anyone.....waving nice shiny things in front of you and then yanking them away. the good news is you can still have a right proper pity party without drinking!!! i think i'd at least allow myself ONE full day to pout furiously and with zeal.

hang in there.

Maybe something even better will come along. One thing I try to remember is to keep fighting. I hope you feel better.

Wow that really sucks. I am sorry.
Maybe God has a plan for you and that job wasn't it?
Not trying to minimize it though...that really stinks.

hugs

Very sorry to hear that MIR. I'm in the midst of a massive downsizing/reorganization myself at work. Lots of people who have worked here for a long time will be losing their jobs and it just plain sucks.

The fact that you got that job offer in the first placetells you a lot of things
1. You have valuable skills to share
2. You made the cut above others who applied for the job
3. You will most likely make the cut at the next job opportunity you have, and there will be more.

Keep your head up!

That does stink MIR, but the bright side is You were right for the job, too bad they couldn't hire. Good luck with future searches, this actually bodes well.
My drinking landed me in my craptastic job for more years than I like to think about, accepting that and not using it as an excuse to feed the AV has let me be more 'ok' with it. So definitely on board with the notion that alcohol will only make matters worse.
Went to an eye doctor this week and instead of being consulted on corrective apparatus I was given a script for blood work and an MRI(and not for a week, sheesh) , that plus too much googling is seriously leading me to think I may not in fact be invincible.

I'm not sure I'd want to work for a company that sloppy with their money.

Good luck with your search, bud, and good job staying sober through what is clearly a big disappointment.

Not to open a can of worms because you may not want the extra stress. But I believe with a formal letter it is considered a contract, and they are breaking it with no due course to anything that you did. As such you should be able to at least threaten litigation for damages; mental and time (took away opportunity from other employment).
I would think you should probably get what would be equivalent to one month's pay without any legal action.

Difficult situation. Chalk it up as an experience to learn from and use it moving forward like the mature adult you are.

Also, lighting some dog poop on fire and throwing it on someone's porch is also an option.

Well that is crappy.

I know you've been through a lot worse, and you'll bounce back from this a grateful, smiling winner....

But it sucks while you're rolling with it.

I am terribly sorry to hear that. Job hunting is very stressful. The only thing to do is not give up; never give up; keep persevering. Eventually, something will land.

Oh that is really awful. Agree that it's probably a blessing in disguise - if the company is that dysfunctional to offer employment only to realize they don't have budget (???) probably not someone you'd want to work for.

Stay strong!
