The Past 3 Years in 3 Songs
The Past 3 Years in 3 Songs
So I put on the Amazon "Classic R&B" station this evening. After listening for a while, here's what came on, in this order:
1) Everybody Plays the Fool, by The Main Ingredient: "Everybody plays the fool sometimes, no exceptions to the rule..."
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dXGa__ECvnM
2) Ain't No Way, by Aretha Franklin: "Ain't no way for me to love you if you won't let me..."
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PB2Mu2zBzjw
3) Ooh Child, by The 5 Stairsteps: "Ooh-oo child, things are gonna get easier, ooh-oo child, things'll get brighter..."
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmpU_73CXxU
I haven't thought about that last song in a long long time. If I was the SR DJ tonight, I'd play that song. I'd say, in a raspy Wolfman Jack-like voice, "hey, this here is the Honeypig-Woman, and this song goes out to all of you out there in WRSR land!" And you know, things ARE gonna get easier and brighter...
to all my SR friends.

Oh, gotta add one more song after "Ooh Child":
4) R-E-S-P-E-C-T, by Aretha Franklin: "R-E-S-P-E-C-T, find out what it means to me..."

I love it, Honeypig Woman.
Yes, you should be the Sober Recovery DJ. Definitely not me. I love the sad stuff. I actually wrote a list of about 50 depressing songs to commemorate my divorce. Planned on making a mixed cd of it that I could cry to for a month or so. . Turns out I was pretty d@mn happy after the divorce, and never needed that "soundtrack". Oh well. I've still got the list in case anyone else ever feels like wallowing in misery.

honeypig..._^^^^^ you got that right.....
honeypig....bimmini turned me on to Joss Stone....and I am so grateful....
I just went to u-tube and listened to her song...."Right to be Wrong".....and, I think that song was written for where you are now!!!
That girl has more soul in her in her little toe than many people have in their whole body....
I suggest you give that particular song a listen.....it will lift you UP...I promise...lol....

OMG, dandy, thank you so much for the Joss Stone recommendation! "Right to Be Wrong" is perfect for me now...
I also listened to her doing the old Dusty Springfield song "Son of a Preacher Man": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBH8o8XXnVM
as well as "People Get Ready", a song that has always brought tears to my eyes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msC8HkU3dpI
I'm going to have to find more. This is good, good stuff.

honeypig.....It is sooo good.....
Dusty springfield was such a loss...I believe that she passes, young, from ovarian cancer....
Both she and Joss are British......so much soul from across the water!
Nothing like music to tap on emotions......
I am so glad that y ou liked Joss's song.....I will never hear it without thinking about you!
I like "People Get Ready" also.....along with the Staple Singers.....

Yup, just dug up a whole bunch of the Staple Singers too. There is this great one of Mavis Staple doing "Freedom's Highway":

Going from room to room doing various things here, singing "March up Freedom's highway, march each and every day, made up my mind that I won't turn around!" then standing by the sink doing dishes singing "march, march" w/the backup gals and doing a little 3-step backup gal move.
Man, it is great music, lifts you up right from the soles of your feet!
