Day 6

Well here I am at day 6. Had a hard time sleeping last night, so I took one 10mg of melatonin. Never again.....I feel horrible. Almost like a hangover. Body aches, head hurts and no energy. It's an over the counter sleep support my Dr. Told me about but failed to tell me that I would feel yucky the next day. Grr. I am sitting on sofa watching dog sleep in the sun and trying to decide what to cook for breakfast or just have cereal again. Other than that I am grateful to be sober this morning. hope everyone has a great day!

Congratulations on 6 days Garden.
10 mg of Melatonin is very high.
I take it once in a while when I need to reset my sleep schedule since I have shifts overnight, days, early morning, early evenings so sometimes my body forget what's what.
I am a big woman (5'11) and 1 mg is the most I can take.
The first time I took it, I took 2 mg and I woke up feeling really drowsy and hangover and not really rested.
Talk about it with your doctor but I m pretty sure that you way overdid it. Also I don't think it's addictive but to be on the safe side, I only take it once in a blue moon when I am really tired but cannot get to sleep.

Day six! Way to go! Melatonin does the same to me, Garden.

I'm with Carlotta - but I don't even try to take it any more at all. I tried it one time years ago. It gave me horrible nightmares.

Garden1228, your sleep will normalize in time. It's uncomfortable, but it won't hurt you to have a few weeks of not-so-great sleep. I was really careful to not add any more little "helpers" to my body when I was in early sobriety. I stuck with herbal tea and a walk every day. If I woke in the middle of the night I came to this site, had a cup of hot chocolate and was usually able to go back to sleep within an hour.

Great job on 6 sober days, Garden.

I've never taken melatonin so no experience to share but, as bim said, your sleep will eventually normalize.

Congrats on 6 days! I take melatonin when I really need help sleeping but nowhere near 10mg. As others have mentioned, that a very high dosage. I would be groggy with that much as well I'm sure. Sleep will eventually come naturally and since you are 6 days in, I'm guessing sooner than later. Hang in there. You are doing great!

Congrats on Day 6.....I'm on day 7 and I keep telling myself every night I go to bed sober I get to wake up sober...and that's a great feeling. But these past few days have been weird...I find myself wondering IF I drank the day/night before. Hopefully that will pass as I string together more days of sobriety. I wish the same for you!

Congrats on Day 6!

When I can't sleep I use 3 mg and it seems to work. Also just staying patient or switching beds.
