Little victories

Today was a weird one.

I had a super productive day, went to the gym, exercised, ate well. Was generally feeling good. Then cravings came in with an absolute vengeance. I think maybe it's some leftover instinct from using alcohol as a reward for so long.

Anyway, I tried to ignore it. Later on in the afternoon, I went to go get some shopping. I ended up at the milk aisle staring at the alcohol aisle for a few minutes, battling the temptation. It's my local shop, the security guard, a guy who has seen me many times buying alcohol at all hours and has seen me change was watching me, seeing what I was going to do. I turned away and noticed some chocolate boxes, I spent the money I could have burned on poison on a present for her.

I've left it in the kitchen with a note wishing her a great day at work. Every time I've walked past I feel proud.

I sometimes think the little victories mean more than the very hard times. During the very hard times you're focused on surviving, on getting through. It's getting through every day life that's the real test.

Every victory counts... as long as it is not "having just one drink" Just think of that proud feeling that you have the next time you feel the craving. I am sure that feeling is much better than having a drink... At least I think so..

That is powerful stuff shows great strength and its a good idea. Maybe I'll get something for my husband on what money normally would've been my alcohol purchase.

I love that! What a sweet gesture to give the chocolates as a gift. And, I think it's the little victories, the everyday things, that will make your recovery work.
