Saturday ramble...

I have nothing particular intelligent or wise to say today other than I wanted to post this. Right now I have the perfect opportunity to do a lot of drinking. I have lots of free time, very few obligations, a little bit of money and its football season. A year ago I would be drinking every weekend and would somehow convince myself I was having the time of my life. In fact, one year ago today, I would probably be pouring my first drink and warming up my favorite chair with remote control in hand. Instead I am here. I am posting. I am not obsessing over getting drunk.
I have developed an affinity for cooking and eating. I am really enjoying food. I know, pretty dull, but I'm serious. I like trying cuisine from all parts of the world. Its kind of fun and interesting to try things that are staples from other parts of the world. I love to eat. Got some swedish meatball going right now. Can't wait to eat them. Have a great Saturday everyone.

You might even say that we too are
living a boring life over here because
were not boozing it up and carrying on
like some crazy fools.

We are early birds, getting up around
5am, sitting outside before daylight
sipping on our coffees and listening
to those early bird chirps as they too
wake up to greet a new day.

We pulled ourselves together, drove
thru McDonalds for breakfast before
heading for an early Walmart shop,
and back home for 9am.

Here it Saturday, rain in the forecast
and nothing else really planned for
the day.

Are we restless, irriratable or discontent?

No way. We love watching tv forensics
or golf and really anything that peaks
our interest. We will do that for awhile
then head back outside to sit in our comfy
chairs enjoying the many birds we feed,
listening to our music playing next to
us on the radio and admiring all the hard
work I do in our gardens to enjoy the
beauty of many flowers, bushes and plants
still blooming this time of the yr.

What's so awesome and most important
in my husband and I's lives today is, is that
we are both sober and live our life in Faith
and a recovery program incorporated in
all areas of our areas of our life.

Life doesn't have to be filled with
so much stress and caos that would
cause us to drink and destroy our
lives.

We'd rather sit back, enjoy peace
and simplicity away from all that
life would otherwise offer us.

We are not a glum lot in recovery
but rather happy, joyous and free.

Enjoy your sober or clean day.

Very nice post, Jeff.

I'll take peace, contentment, a good sense of self-worth over alcohol fueled times any day!!!!!!!

Sobriety rocks! , Jeff.

I've gotten into cooking also, especially watching videos and trying different things. Isn't it great to reflect on all the fun, interesting, and worthwhile things we can do vs. Foggy memories of getting plastered and blacking out. What a waste of time, not to mention the wasted, nauseating, headache induced hangover time. No thanks!

Nothing dull about it, sounds wonderful.
Blind drunk, boring or offending everybody (or both), now that's dull.
Enjoy and happy Saturday to you too.
xx

What I use to consider boredom I know consider serenity. My perspective about many things has changed.

One man looks through the prison bars and see mud the other sees stars.
I prefer to look at the starts today.

Beautiful fall day - good day to be sober.

Similar here. Ten months and a little change, and even with the head cold of the last two days, there is a calm and contentment about where I'm at. Presently, I'm sitting on the patio with my headphones on, listening to my country Spotify mix, and sipping viciously strong, piping hot black coffee that reminds me of being home on the prairie.

There are moments when I miss the party surrounding sports, events, etc. I do, however, find it helpful to play the tape through, and remind myself that the enthusiasm for events is still an option, but the alcohol is not. If I need booze to get happy about Wyoming football (1-5 going into today's game, so it might help...heh), I can probably find something else to do.

It's a good day. Time to enjoy the moment, rather than over analyze it.

Thanks everyone. Just wanted to mention something about food. My wife is from Lima Peru, didn't come to the states until she was 19-20ish. I think many Americans would be amazed at what kind of meal they can put together with very little. The economic conditions are very bad (obviously) so they get creative and can provide a delicious meal with beans, rice, tomatoes, corn and cuts of meat that in America would be thrown on the floor or used as dog-food. My mother-in-law often gets up early to start preparing meals, she works at it all day, and it is delicious. Whenever she knows we are coming to visit, her first question is "what does Jeff want to eat?" She is 78 and raised in a village with goats and chickens. My wife often tries to duplicate her meal preparation. What my wife always says is "I made it with a lot of love". And damn...more often than not, its delicious. If you live in the US, we are blessed.

Your mother-in-law sounds like a true treasure, Jeff.

No doubt, we are blessed.
