If there is one thing I wished is that an alcoholic could read these stories and see the heartache that their loved ones go through.

I lost my husband to alcohol, and it has forever changed my life, and that of our 5 year old daughter.

I am so very sorry for your loss.

If it were only that easy, get them to see the hurt they bring to their loved ones, but that logic is only clear to the person NOT afflicted by alcoholism or addiction. If it were as easy as them seeing the hurt and just stop drinking/drugs, we wouldn’t need treatment facilities, therapists, addiction specialists, 12 step programs and on and on.

This disease, at best, is only ever put into remission never completely eradicated or cured.

Your topic made me wonder if a person has alcoholism on both sides of the family and only enablers especially parents what r the chances of someone changing ever?

I believe anyone from the most dire of circumstances can truly change if they want to.

Some alcoholics do change, but it takes hard work and a lot of time. It's only with willingness and honesty that change is possible but I don't think alcoholics are ever very good with relationships, even with years of recovery.

It's so sad but it is what it is at the moment.

Alcohol can destroy lives & families but so can poor, selfish and negligent personal choices of the drinker/abuser.

Oh how I wish it was just the chemical but there are probably other things going on that alcohol only enhances, enables or exacerbates.

Took a while but sometimes focusing on the why's and how's is more important than the what.

Peace
