Ready to give myself a chance

I'm 30 years old. Spent the better part of the last decade self-medicating with alcohol. So, as you can guess, it was a rollercoaster ride. It got progressively worse, to the point where blackouts and lost time had become normal. I always managed to still function and keep a job, somehow, miraculously. But I destroyed a number of important relationships and now find myself alone. I realized that if I don't stop now, I have no chance at happiness. So I'm ready to finally stop, to be present in my own mind without the crutch of alcohol.

Welcome roosterrising. You'll never regret making this important move - to having a better life and getting free.

I was in my 30's when I realized I didn't drink like others. It was far too important to me - and part of everything I did. I never had the courage to let go of it, though. Spent many years trying to be a social drinker. Chaos and destruction ensued. This never has to happen to you. Glad you are here with us.

Hello and welcome. I feel the same way you do, I'm 29, able to keep a job but part of me is ruined by the behaviors of my drinking. I'm looking to stop and I hope you do too

Welcome, and I'm glad that you know alcohol is causing problems in your life. Getting sober will make every part of your life easier.

I hope you continue to read and post.

Hi Roosterrising. Welcome!

When I first joined I was encouraged to join the Class of September thread (that's the month I joined ) and it is really a great source of support. Its new people, or returning people, but mostly just starting out in recovery. Soooo you would join the Class of October thread. I encourage you to do that!
