Hi
Hi
Hi. I'm new here. Right now, I am terribly hungover. I desparately need to stop drinking but the thought of going back to AA just adds to the nausea. :dead1:
The religiosity is a big turn-off and always has been. Unfortunately, it is the only show in this town and I'm miserable enough to give it another go.
I was in AA on and off for a couple years, but that was more than a decade ago.
I am unemployed and it sure will be easier to find work if I'm not busy getting blasted. I've promised myself and my husband that I'm not going to drink today. Which is a good thing for ya'll too because I was banned from a board yesterday and I do not remember why.

Hi Tracy, Welcome to SR. I don't remember seeing any posts from you yesterday! I hear what you are saying about AA. However, I have found it to be a spiritual program, not a religious one. I hope you will give it another chance and try to go with an open mind.
I am sorry you are hungover right now. I remember that feeling all to well. As they say, take it one day at a time. That is all any of us can do. And keep posting. Others will be around soon to wish you well.
Hugs--

Hi Tracy and welcome from me too.
Since it has been over a decade...why don't you give it a try again. Look for the similarities, not the differences.
But I also know lots of people who get a stay sober without a 12 step program.
SR is a great place for friendship and support, dont' drink, just for today.

Hi Tracy!
Welcome! i've only been on these boards a little while, but these people are a godsend!
Poor choice of wording there.........ok, I am totally with you on AA turning me off b/c of the religious aspect. To be honest, it still does. I don't like to think of having to rely on God as a "higher power" for me to depend on.........the way i'm dealing with it is using these boards as my HP.
The greatest thing for me about sobriety (at least for today) is that I don't have to worry about not remembering what I did anymore. You don't have to either, its YOUR choice. And we'll all be here to support you .
Stay strong!!

(((Tracy))) maybe a meeting can be a place to start? just to get into the swing of things. don't fret about a higher power your higher power will find you when you need it. you will recognize it and it may not go along with the popular idea of what HP is.... there are lots of alternatives to AA too. keep posting here as there is a lot of love and support. you will find your happiness. my HP is LOVE. hugs- alice

I've decided two things: I am never going to drink again, no matter how bad I feel, no matter how good I feel, no matter what's going on around me, I ain't doing it.
The kicker is that it actually feels very good to say that. It's empowering and doesn't feel like I'm depriving myself anything.
I'm going to use everything available. I'll use AA because it's what's here (where I live) and I'm going to use other methods that are available online. AA is not a perfect match but it doesn't have to be. At chat last night I was able to tune out the sloganese and those who bug me. A lady there has 20+ years of sobriety and her beliefs closely follow my own. She set a fine example of how to offer an alternate view point and a moderate voice.
