Taking a commitment
Taking a commitment
Hello all.
I've been attending meetings for about a year now and I just took the commitment to be the new chip person at a meeting today. I can't help but feel like "wow! I'm really doing this!" I had no idea that taking a commitment would help me to feel more a part of the group. No, it's better said that I feel like I've made another step of progress in working on my recovery. Guess they don't call it a commitment for nothing!

Thanks for the words, Tamerua. It will definitely make me feel more part of the group. I'm not one to put myself front and center, usually, so I think standing up in front of the group and giving a celebrant a chip and a hug will be a huge thing for me. Will definitely help to get me out of my shell.
Funny thing is, I think I've longed for a long time now to get back out of my shell. In my sobriety so far, I'm at 84 days, I can see where this program has helped me to venture out of the shell in little steps at a time. For so long I was paralyzed by what I feared other people might possibly be thinking of me, and now I can help to celebrate another person and their achievements.

Hi.
Congratulations on your contribution. Over time the shell we crawl out of is so meaningful in the overall picture.
My first time speaking from the podium was a total blackout for me but it opened the idea that when I do what I don’t want to, it helps me. Not many are trained speakers but it’s part of my program to possibly help another alcoholic.
I hope you continue your contributions.

Good move.
I`ve always found taking on a commitment a positive experience helpful.
