Symptoms
Symptoms
Our Western medicine often seems to attack the symptoms rather than the root cause of our ailments. Especially at the general practitioner level. A pill for every ill. While I observe this tendency in the medical arena, it is really more of a societal problem as a whole.
Before I came to the rooms of recovery, I would be told, by myself and others, to "stop" the symptoms of my underlying spiritual disease. The acts of self destruction. The results of my inability to live in the world. Escape mechanisms for my default state of restless, irritable, and discontent. And just "stopping" never worked for long. The root of the disease was so overwhelming that those ceased symptoms would eventually reappear.
Thank God there is a program that attacks my addiction at its core. The underlying illness rather than just the symptoms. And lo and behold, it actually works!
