2+ weeks sober!
Hi,
I've been a member of this group before. I used to have a lot of trouble with sobriety. No more, fortunately.
For those who might remember, I was the guy who blamed it on OCD.
I quit Thursday, March 12th. And no, it wasn't to avoid Friday the 13th (given my OCD). I just decided it was time to quit.
Instead of making radical changes, I just decided that the new rule is: no more alcohol. No alcohol shall pass my lips (unless necessary for medical procedures).
This is working for me. I'm now more than 2 weeks sober and especially after the initial withdrawal, I really don't feel like drinking. At all. It's a shift in attitude.
The first week was the hardest. But it was only one week. If someone told you that your life depended on it and all you had to do was wait one week, would you do it? Of course you would.
In a way, alcohol determines your life. And it will kill you. A week to prevent that is not a difficult choice!
I was the one who thought it was impossible. Now my life is better than it's ever been. If I can do it, you can too.

Congratulations ZHIK and welcome to SR!!!
I know for me, even an hour seemed impossible, but hours turned into days; days into weeks; weeks into months; and now I'm on the years
I do hope you read around here. I also had a change in attitude, but that didn't stop real life situations from coming up that my first instinct wasn't "get numb".
The great folks here have been with me through good times and bad. I'm not saying you may question this attitude, at some point. I'm simply saying that if it does happen, many of us have been through it and we are always here.
Hugs and prayers,
Amy

Thanks for the replies. I've spent the past few days in bed. I had a bit of withdrawal to go through and drinking was NOT an options. I prefer to lock myself in my bedroom with enough water, some fruit and multivitamin pills instead of drinking just one sip.
I'm glad I did it. Now I'm still sober and feel wonderful!
