Social Media

I took a weekend off from FB and found my mood elevated, I was more productive and introspective, and more centered.

Coincidence?

Fairly typical for alcoholics to have a low(er) self esteem than many other "normal" people. I found ditching FB and the fake - look how great my life is reality - helped me focus on me.

Have not missed it one bit!

There were some research about it. You might want to check out this article
Facebook Depression Study
I rarely log on to FB these days.

LOL!! Low self-esteem isn't an issue, here, trust me. It's more that everyone is so stupid they were depressing the crap out of me.

Strongly thinking of walking away for good, as well. Maybe the dog can keep her account.

Oh no! Your dog is one of those with social media? I have quite canine and feline friends on FB. I like their posts, no drama just some cute picts and a bit of humor like
I peed on mama's laundry, wait till she see it.
Thinking about it, I might unfriend all the humans on my list

Agree, Carlotta! People seem to enjoy my dog's page, and it's light and fun. It's also a good outlet for my silly side.

I'm finding so many of my "friends" are bogged down in politics and negativity and ridiculousness- if they aren't trying to sell me something!

Hi there. I gave it up about 4 years ago and was glad I had from the first day. Definitely wasn't for me!

Totally on board with giving up the social media! It's a rat race. And I don't know if it's just me or not but everyone of my "friends" posts seem to revolve around parties, bars, alcohol, etc. It used to make me depressed that I couldn't party like a normal person but I am over that ... now I'm like don't these people have anything better to do with their time? One final account (Instagram) to delete and I am done with that mess. I have been telling people to write me a letter if they have some exciting news to share ... I don't need to see a picture of their dinner every night.

I closed all social media accounts over five/six years ago and never missed them.

I've never had a FB account (just never appealed, I guess). But I did read recently that some study argued that people's mood and self-esteem often dropped precipitously after being on FB. Must be the presentation of all those "perfect lives" that folks compare their lives too.

I deleted my face crook account. Got tired of not caring what people are having for dinner.

Facebook can for some be just another addiction. I have been off there for a long time now. Can only share so many pictures of me with my goats. Children should not be on it at all. There have been many problems created there and the drama goes on and on. Most of us stay clear of drama in our sober lives.

Can I see your goats? Would love to see some kids jumping around and playing as well...

I have deleted my Facebook account the whole thing just stresses me out. Everyone is drinking and traveling. or drinking and doing drugs. They keep making lots of **** ups in their lives and it makes me feel like my drinking is non promlematic compared to them.

I need to just get back to living my own life and focus on myswlf and my family and my career over external influences.
