this moment, we own it!
When I was early on in my current sobriety streak, some lyrics from a 2-chainz song made a very distinct impression on me. One of the key aspects of the message is that we own this moment. Even if we have three strikes against us, we can go for it (get sober) since we own this moment.
I just wanted to send out this message since there are a lot of individuals that have been struggling and/or have relapsed recently, and some are having difficulty committing to getting sober again. It’s never too late to get sober, but it is important to own this moment. Don’t pick up that next drink. Don’t get sober tomorrow. Don’t promise to get sober next week. Don’t be making excuses as to why you can’t get sober. Get sober now! Even if you are doubting yourself, you can do it and get sober. SR is an awesome community and has an amazing number of resources, tools and individuals to learn from.
If you’re sober today, you can own today and not drink. You never have to pick up a drink again. If you’re struggling, don’t pick up that drink. Own this moment and commit to not drinking. Do everything you can not to drink. It does get easier. Some days are harder than others, but we can do it! This moment, we own it!

Yes! As drinking alcoholics, we have a more passive view on life. I'm often observing this on the relapse and active drinking threads and used to do this myself plenty. Like this is just something that happens to us, like we are devoid of choice. We'll say things like "well, once it starts that's just how it goes for me". But the most powerful part of recovery is to realize that you DO have a choice. You DO own this moment.
