when are you no longer a newcomer?
when are you no longer a newcomer?
how much time do you need to be sober before you are no longer considered a newcomer? Is it the total number of posts? Is it the time after your first visit to SR?
i am still navigating my way around this joint
51 days and still counting

There are no established rules per say. It's a personal thing.
Heck I still consider myself a newcomer sometimes. I like to hang around this section, I get to chip in and help if I can. Makes me feel good and nurtures my sobriety. Nobody ever told me to grow up and niche in another section. LOL!
Well done on 51 days!

I've been a newcomer for almost a year! I post on "New Comers" because when I hear stories about a persons 1st day, 1 week, 1 month ect. It is a reminder to me how hard I tried to get where I am!!!!
I will not go back!!!! So believe it or not----it gives me some encouragement to "Keep going".
Sobriety does get easier, yet I believe the ADDICTIVE VOICE (AV) will show up every now and then.
So I can learn from a person who just came to SR today.
We all learn from each other

If you mean where can you post on SR, the answer is anywhere. Newcomers is just the name of this sub forum which main purpose is to assist those who just quit drinking.
So if you want to post in alcoholism or any other forum go at it. No restrictions here.
You have people with double digit sobriety (in years) posting in newcomer.

I post on alcoholism, alcoholism 12 steps support, cafe central (non recovery fun stuff) and also Friends and Family of alcoholics (I am a double winner).
and of course there is the women's corner. Check it out if you have not already done so

In the AA world, a newcomer is typically in their first 90 days. Even if you had a long prior sobriety & relapsed, your first 90 you are again considered a newcomer. There are many AA suggestions which apply to the first year (don't change major things in your life, don't start a new relationship, etc.). Some folks consider the whole first year of continuous sobriety as newcomer.
On this forum, there are no restrictions with posting. I have a few sub-forums that I read & post in. I come to the newcomers section to give support. It is the first place I check in when I log into the site...

It's a bit like the terms "early sobriety" (vs long-term), or "recovering" addict (vs recovered). People and some communities give specific definitions and meaning to these terms, but ultimately I think it's best to apply whichever helps someone the most to identify with. I usually like to view everything as a process and dynamic development, so I'm happy to remain a newcomer in the long run (not because I plan to relapse of course)
I don't usually look in specific subforums of SR -- I check in here daily (more often than not more than once per day) and just click in on "New Posts" to see what's going on. That shows everything new and it also gives the location of the posts in the list.
In terms of posting, I think it's best if you post wherever you feel it's most helpful and appropriate for you. Newcomers gets a lot of traffic, so it's a good place if you want a lot of feedback. One of the best features of this subforum is the presence of people with a solid chunk of sobriety and lots of experience here who can give really wise and useful advice.

I need to spend time checking out other sites on SR, just starting to participate in conversations on newcomers. Reading newcomers brings me back to first base, keeps me vigilant. AV tries to convince me that i made it, you are good, no problem here...
