Sober Bedtime

Sober Bedtime

sober bedtime, how I love you
your un-spinning bed, your soft, cool pillow
cradles my head as I read, or think, or do a puzzle
no churning belly or feelings of foreboding for the morning
just comfort and tranquility
as I drift off to dreamless rest
waking happily, alert and cheerful
ready for a day where I can think and reason
and pour coffee without it jiggling out of the cup
as I sip it steaming
starting a morning where I don’t have questions about
the night before.

My feelings exactly. The no-hangover mornings have been one of my most valued treasures in sobriety....and soon enough I'll get to enjoy another!

This is a close second. Bedtime has always been my favorite time of day. Mornings, not so much. Maybe when I have enough sober ones under my belt, that will change. We'll have to see.
