Well its finally happened
Well its finally happened
Got caught drink driving last night and off to court next month to lose my licence. I know I have myself to blame but now I wont be paying insurance, tax etc I know exactly where that extra money is going even though I keep telling myself no. Trouble just seems to follow me
Dan23,
I'm going to to give you some tough love....
Trouble doesn't follow you. Your choices & actions put you in this predicament. What you should be asking yourself is: What have I learned from this experience? What can I do better so this will never happen again?
I think you know the answers to those questions....time to put it into action.

I'm sorry Dan.
I'm even sorrier than you seem determined to do nothing to help yourself.
what the hell, man?
If AA doesn't work, try another recovery group, if that doesn't work, try a counsellor or a Dr, if that doesn't work...consider rehab Dan.
The longer you let yourself be a passive victim here the worse things are going to get.
Don't you think you're worth fighting for?

*Shivers* Well it finally happened...
Thanks for the post. It's a reminder to me what WILL happen if i drink again.
It finally happened...could end with..
A) I got fired
B) I lost the love of my life, she left me.
C) I blacked out and ended up BACK IN THE HOSPITAL
D) I passed away.
I don't want any of these to happen to me. So i will NOT drink again.
Thank you for the reminder.

I recently got a DWI and to be honest the thought I could have hurt some innocent person scared the hell out of me and made me very aware this is not a problem I can fix on my own. I hope maybe you eventually feel that way.

How in the world do you think spending more money on alcohol is going to improve your situation? It won't.
The title of your journal implies that you've driven drunk in the past and had a strong sense that this day would come. Use it as a wake up call.
Lastly, I'm glad that neither you or anybody else was injured.

No, you're in the right place. I think what is being uniformly pointed out is that such thinking is counter to what you should be doing; I don't remember any posts up thread that indicated shock that you were.
Dan, are you grateful that you didn't hurt or kill yourself or someone else? I really hope you take this seriously as it's meant to be taken. What can you learn from this so it won't happen again?
Dan everyone is wanting to help, that's what SR is all about!!
Might be time to finally draw a line in the sand with your drinking, use this experience, as tough as it is to really turn a corner and say no more to what alcohol has to offer!!
You can do this!!

Rather than saying you KNOW where that extra money will be going say you know where that little voice in your head WANTS it to go but you don't have to listen to it!!
After so long it's normal to automatically equate extra money with extra drink but it doesn't have to be that way.
I put a post a short while ago where I was having (an extremely small) pay rise...like 17 quid a month and straight away converted that to bottles of wine! What will have to happen for you to realise it's time to stop though? You're on here so obviously you want to stop, you just have to reach down and find that determination now and realise you're much stronger than that evil voice that tries to convince you otherwise xx

I got a DUI once....I shrugged it off as an inconvenience and kept drinking....then I nearly died after being hit by a car while crossing the road drunk.....then drinking killed my best friend....I kept drinking.....then it almost killed me.....then I had to quit. It was either that or death.
When are you going to quit?
When are you going to quit?
Dan, I don't think saving a couple of quid on your car expenses is the be all and end all.
I think what people are trying to convey to you, is this:
Your drinking is causing you problems in life. Your looking at a 12 month ban from driving. If you get caught drink driving whilst disqualified, your looking a Prison.
Your focused on saving money, trust me, no one else is, their focused on you.
What are you going to do to change, drinking isn't exactly working out for you Sir.
How about tomorrow, you don't pick up a drink and come on here for support.
Lets do this one step at a time.

Its not you we are criticising.
Believe that, at least from my post anyway.
Its the thoughts alcohol is leading you to have that we are focusing on.
Almost like (how it would hear if I spoke it rather than wrote it to you) - 'listen to yourself. This is not you. This is what alcohol can do to us and the thoughts and reasoning it can put in our heads when we are deep into drink. Realise the distorted thinking drinking brings'.
Honestly, nothing but support and wishes for you to be well. xx
