A mesage of hope..for the new year..
A mesage of hope..for the new year..
First off, I want to thank Everyone here at SR. I found you at a low point in my struggles.
I am coming up on 2 years sober, and, for those of you who wonder how you will survive without alcohol, let me just say, I don't think I would have survived the past two weeks HAD I still been drinking.
Over the past month, the company I work for was bought out, people let go, divisions reorganized out of existence, and we lost 2 major clients. Through all of this I've had to work overtime, work remotely, work from home, and entertain calls from our new "overlords" in Germany at hours of the day and night, that previously, I would have been incapable of doing because of drinking. I may have been tired, cranky, and very stressed, but I was Sober. I could never have done what i found myself capable of doing was I still drinking.
Over the past year I've met a wonderful woman I've fallen deeply in love with. A woman who doesn't drink. Not because she quit, but because she never found it fun or interesting in the first place. Can you imagine? There are people out there that NEVER really drank. Who never enjoyed it. Even now, I still find that amazing.
I hope this doesn't come across as preachy or self-aggrandizing, I just wanted to help those who find it hard to fathom, belive that there is a great live sans alcohol. A really great life. It's not always easy, it's not always fun, but when faced clear headed, its much better than I'd imagined.
Good luck to all of us...and Happy New Year to you all!!

Thanks for that, Tony - just the job to help those of us starting out on our sobriety - I don't think I've met anyone who never drank - not knowingly anyway................ but then up until recently, I would have assumed there was something wrong with them! How twisted I became

Nice Tony !!! The company I work for was bought-out a year ago and hasn't been a lot of fun sometimes - so I can relate. btw - have a 2013 H-D deluxe with a bunch of added chrome, wheels, seat bars, etc. My 1st H-D. Now all I need are a few tattoo's and I'll feel completly confortable with my new found local AA H-D buddies ....LOL. Happy New Year !!! MJM
We were so focused on the people like us, we over looked a lot of good people that didn't drink or took drugs.
Nothing against the social drinker but, there are a lot of good people enjoying life without having to change the way they think and feel.

Great post BA. I am glad through your company reorganization that you are still employed even if stressful. Like you my wife of 10 years has never drank. She despises alcohol. I am sure part of the reason is me. But i am thankful she doesn't drink. Have a great new year
