Made it past day 1

Good Morning everyone,
Well, made it past night 1 .... wasn't easy ....
Ate 3 bags of crisps, half a box of After Eights, half a Toblerone & half a package of salami ... not great - but it's better than the bottle or 2 of wine !!
I have to do what it takes to get past these 1st few days .... weight & unhealthy eating I will deal with next. One day at a time ...

What a fantastic feeling this morning though - being hangover free .... being able to make my kids breakfast, instead of sending them to the kitchen cupboard for a packet of cookies....

Wish I could bottle this feeling and keep it for when the AV comes for a chat ....
Have a great day everyone.
xxxx

Good for you Shenzy!

I allow myself to eat whatever takes my fancy in early recovery. I've been up and down with many day ones too - I just keep trying, someday soon it's going to stick! You're probably craving the sugar you are used to consuming with your alcohol. Keep it going - drink lots of water

Congratulations Shenzi!!
Think about whatever you need to keep you sober. If thats a lot of comfort food, that is absolutely okay. There will be plenty of time later to address your diet.
Im on day 28 and am allowing myself anything I wish until new years.

Have you heard of: HALT!!, in case you have a alcohol craving?
Are you hungry?
Are you angry?
Are you lonely?
Are you tired?
I have found this to be a great method to stop any cravings in their tracks.

That's great Shenzy! The HALT acronym really was helpful to me as was avoiding caffeine. Too much of it mimicked the anxiety of an urge to drink.
