2014 - Year of Hell
Hi all -
It's been a long time since I posted anything here. I've had a hellish six months that has not had anything to do with drinking. I've actually stayed sober since July 25, 2013.
My brother died accidentally while my family was on vacation in June. He was only 49 years old. He was a gifted musician and artist and a beloved uncle to his nieces and nephews. His untimely death has left a catastrophic hole in the lives of family and friends.
I don't know how I was able to deal with the most traumatic event I have ever experienced without drinking - butI have. This year's holiday season features the double whammy of fun - mourning for the loss of a loved one AND the ever omnipresent role alcohol plays this time of year.
Friends - please keep me and my family in your thoughts and prayers. I will honor the memory of my brother by staying sober and being fully present for the pain, the flood of emotions and the reconciliation that his death brings.
