Finding yourself again - New Hope

So many people on this board have helped me and I just wanted to sum up a post, which I hope inspires others too.

Drink alcohol isnt easy.

It costs money to buy or steal when were desperate. We drink, not to mask any inner pain or sorrow, but because we wish to feel better. We feel so low without a drink, that we drink to feel and stay better.

Alcohol is a depressent

Every heard this ? Do you know what that means ?
Well it means you take a normal person and for a short amount of time, you make them feel relaxed, in control, sexy even. You enable them to feel good about themselves.

That normal person, knows what it is like to drink and boy does it feel good.

The next time that normal person drinks, requires just slightly more alcohol than the previous time.

If left unchecked, the normal healthy person, continues to drink and feel good, but requires more alcohol to achieve the same effect, but there is a very nasty sting in the tale. The Liver produces a nasty by product called apetylmadehyde, this causes nausea, headaches and dehydration (hangover).

Some people at this stage are able to stop drinking because of the negative effects, therefore requiring less alcohol to get drunk in the future, while other weigh up the negative impact of a hangover against the feel good factor of drinking. Illogically they choose the feel goods factor and drink to combat the effects (delay) the negative hangover effects.

Without alcohol, the otherwise normal person, feels low, inadequate and above all vulnerable. This feeling is unpleasant, combined with the prospect of feeling good from drinking, causes problem drinking.

if problem drinking is not checked, then more alcohol is consumed to provide the same effect causing poor health, lost job because of the inability to work, relationship problems because your primary function in life is boozing.

There comes a point, where the human body needs so much alcohol to feel good, that the negative effects become catastrophic effects, leading to death.

There is no cure, there is no treatment only by performing total abstinence from drinking for the rest of the normal persons life, can they return to feeling good without drinking alcohol.

Fortunately, they feel good without drinking alcohol, much more easily than before, because they felt so depressed.

Complete abstinence from drinking alcohol, means in time accepting your cravings a your bodies last remaining lust. Embrace it for what it is.

Understanding that there is no "cutting down" scenario that works, for the above, simply because the body is craving alcohol and cannot get enough by cutting down and therefore causes more mental anguish.

Only by never drinking again, can the mind accept it must go through a period of unpleasantness and mental adjustment, so it can return to normality. Continuing to deny the body and mind of alcohol, loosens the effects until after 3 months, pleasure and euphoria is felt without alcohol.

Similarities between drinking and smoking cessation both tend to be around 3 months after that time, only complacency and a false sense of security can persuade the normal person to restart a previously abandoned habit.

Your life significantly improves when you cease drinking. You will feel happier, more rested, more at peace within yourself.

You will feel so good, where the last thing you will want to do, is to start drinking again.

It gets much easier, mentally and physically after 3 months. I got to around 100 days (slightly over 3 months) and went on holiday to Thailand and was offered a drink on the plane.

It was funny, because the Air Hostess asked if I wanted a glass of Champangne and I shot back an instant reply, "No thanks I'm driving".
I asked for a very cold glass of sparkling water instead please and she was more than happy to assist. Thats when I realised life has returned to normal for me.
