Forced to take vacation...

So I'm in the military and god bless them they know how it is to be around a drunk. They don't know I'm an alcoholic but that because it's easier to hide in the military. I have superb leadership that does nothing but bend over backwards to help me though. They always have a positive thing to say when I need it.

With that being said I have accrued too many vacation days. I just found out I pretty much have no choice but to take the rest of this month OFF. I will only be at the office for 7 days until January 6th.

I will still be paid for all of this time but I'm terrified of just sitting at my house being bored and ending up going to the store.

I need a plan to get out of the house for the next month straight! Crap.

This was just sprang on me today.

This sounds like a great opportunity.

Is there anything you have wanted to do, but haven't had the time? How about helping out at a local Food Bank during this busy time of the year? Do you have books that you've been wanting to read? How about hobbies? Or maybe you could go away for a week or so and have an actual vacation?

Sitting home, getting paid. That's a luxury. If you want to waste it being bored, seems a shame. More a shame if you spend it drunk.

Have you ever taken a cross-country train trip? Amtrak is an inexpensive way to take a long vacation.

You can come to my house. I have a pile of stuff that needs doing and no vacation days left this year.

Animal shelters always need volunteers, too.

Is there any volunteer work you can do? I would think with the holidays there might be. Lot of opportunities
