Failed after a month - back at 17 days
Im not sure if I should log into the "Newcomers to Recovery" or the "Way Too Familiar with Day 1" forum. :-) After going at this for about a year - I failed at the 35 day mark...my longest previously was 3 weeks.
You know.... it being the Holiday season and all, I figured it would be easier to just drink fairly responsibly the next few weeks and regroup after New Years.
I guess my definition of "fairly responsible" was to drink about $100 worth of scotch within those first 3 days.
This last attempt at drinking normalcy was just way too frustrating....and even if it is "eat, drink, and be merry season"... I will be abstaining from drink.
Good luck to everyone through the weekend and thanksgiving next week.

I have good family support. But I usually make a conscious decision to drink again because I always feel like I'll be able to just drink "normal" or it will be less stress not to force myself to abstain day after day. I've never really told myself I was done for good. But I always revert to heavy, daily drinking, and think about pretty much constantly after 11 a.m. in the morning.
I'm finally to the point that I think I just have to be done for good though. I've proven to myself time and time again that moderation lasts about 48 hours, then I'm done for.
Anyways - thanks for the support. :-)

clones2 well done on the 17 days good work!
I think there comes a time when you just have to finally face the fact that moderation isn't an option, I hit that realisation in February after going through so many cycles of getting 21 days, 30 days, 14 days, 23 days etc etc etc I would always get to a point in sobriety and start to think
"Hey, maybe this time it's different!"
I know now that it wasn't me thinking that, it was my AV
Good descision to abstain friend, hope youre well

after a day or two of most reasonable beer or four a day. i wake up out of control traveling to get wasted to bar or maybe (just in case) stock up on liquor if "i can't sleep".
yeah.. AV is full of excuses. the only truth that we know is that drinking is not for us. have to stick to this basic notion.
Hi Clones, well done on 17 days . If you know your cycle, then at least you know where you danger points lie. You need a good plan in place for those times, and a way to beat cravings.
Like others have said, posting here is a good idea when your AV tells you it's ok to moderate.
