How long does it take to feel better when you quit?
Hi all, I have cut down from 20 drinks to 4.5 over about 9 days. I planned on drinking 7 last night as part of the cut down, but I felt light headed and sick after 4.5. So now I figure I can go cold Turkey from here. Im still feeling a bit nauseous bitvofvyukky tummy and a bit of a headache. I felt work early yesterday and took today off as well. I want to go back tomorrow but am concerned I might start feeling sick at work again. How long does it take to feel better again after you quit? Ive drunk heavily on and off for 10 years every day. Please I only want to hear from people who can relate first hand.
you asked this yesterday MrJ:

no one can give you advice here. If you're not sure of your course of action you need to see a Dr.

I drank heavily for about nine years but not on and off. I had about five sober days per year. I think my body could have used a break in there to heal but it didn't get one.
I was very sick physically and "brain sick" if that is a term.
I was never diagnosed but I am certain that I am a textbook case of PAWS. Post acute withdrawal symptoms (or syndrome?).
I had a diagnosed inflamed liver and I was beginning to worry I had "wet brain" as well.
Back to the point it took about three months for me to feel somewhat normal and really comfortable in my own skin.
However, after just four days I felt MUCH better than I did while drinking every night. So it's kind of hard to understand or explain, because I felt much better right away yet pretty crappy for a while. Look up "PAWS" and you will read the story of my life since June.
I am feeling a little better, day by day. WAAAAAAAAAAY better than when I was hungover and drinking every day.

It's time for you to stop. After I stopped, I started to feel better in about 3-4 days. But then as the days turn into weeks, you'll find you are much clearer in the mind, more motivated, more confident, more happy. Yes, more happy. You will look back and wonder why you wasted so much time being wasted. And you won't ever want to return to the way you were... EVER.

Your chemistry is going to be all over the place apart from anything else and your body is putting that right, right now, its just a matter of about 3 days for that to sort it self out and then you'll feel much better, mentally and physically. Try and do something to make the time pass, try not to think too much and what you do think make it positive, don't worry about anything or try and sort things out till you have recovered. Its just a matter of time that's all, then you can start making plans to stay good yeah!
10 years of drinking can't be wiped out in a few days or weeks.
For me until I got my spring back in my step, it took a few months, but that was with no alcohol at all!!
There's no quick fix for the body to heal or adjust, it needs to do things in it's own time!!
