Those special weekends...

Two to four times a year I have a weekend of cravings. I got clean by leaving 12-step recovery and talking honestly to my friends about what I was going through.

But now I feel bad about going back to them. I don't want them to feel like I am going to be a permanent burden.

I wish there was something to do other than distracting myself and waiting for it to.subside.

I prayed to doorknobs when I was in the program, and cannot go back to that again.

So now what?

Sticking to SR helped me beat weekends like that miamifella.
I can't remember - have you tried non 12 step recovery meetings?

There are no few non-12 meetings around here and none that I can get to with my schedule.

well SR is always here.

I'd think more about that burden thing too - do you think that's reallly a genuine excuse or is it your addicted self throwing up roadblocks to stop you from getting help MF?

I don't know if you have heard of SMART Recovery, it is a non 1 step program. They have meetings but also, if you can't make the meetings, they have a workbook of exercises that you can buy online. Self Help Addiction Recovery | SMART RecoveryŽ. I have looked at it and a lot of the workbook is about cravings.

I used to visit their website a lot in the past and tried their chat room.

But I don't think I have seen their book.

I just look and I have seen their online materials.

I have done the worksheets, though I have never been able to identify activating events.
