breaking a bad cycle.

I'm on day one. I was sober for 20 years then relapsed when my life got really tough for a while. Been drinking off and on for close to 3 years now and ready to be done with it. I've been in a cycle of binge drinking, then being sober, feeling better. Then drinking again. Tips from anyone to help break this cycle?

Hello and welcome.
I drank like that for years. You had some pretty impressive sober time. What were you doing then?
I had to realize I could not drink like a moderate drinker. I was a drunk.
I'd go on three or four day binges, then recover for a few days and do the whole thing over again.
What I do now, is think of those days after the binges and the misery, remorse and anxiety that I went through. I still keep them fresh in my mind and come here and read posts from the newcomers and realize it hasn't changed 'out there'.
I can't have one drink. Never could, never wanted to. It was all I could drink until the blackout or pass out.
I feel for you. I really hope you can get sober again. Best to you.

Welcome to the Forum!!

For me getting a support structure around me was important, SR has been great, others use meetings etc, I needed something outside of myself in those moments to short circuit those thoughts, because my mind wanted to drink, I wanted to drink, and with no second opinion in the conversation there was only going to be one outcome!!

You can do this!!
