Peripheral neuropathy/tingly-painful feet - how long to resolve ?
(Not (Sorry to post again on this topic - not asking for medical advice - just what happened next .. ?)
I posted recently about some suspicions that I had alcoholic neuropathy due to excruciating pain I had had in the joint of my big toe which, at first, the specialist said was arthritis (it's definitely not gout - tests showed that). Now he has changed his mind and says it is a nerve trapped behind a small bunion. .. it is still excruciating and nothing seems to calm it down and he is at a loss to really diagnose it ( I did not tell the orthopaedic specialist I had a drinking history) . I stupidly went on two binges in the past two weeks as I couldn't stand it any more ( not that that helped at all ..quite the contrary). However in the past two days (on day 6 sober after last binge) I have noticed a semi-painful tingling in the other toes of that foot AND in the other foot AND in the side of my left hand .. I am now worried beyond belief that it is 'alcoholic neuropathy' (look it up - it is gruesome)...So I went to my GP this morning and fessed up that my drinking had become a problem ..but didn't really tell him the true extent (I said a bottle of wine a day when in fact it can be more like two). He indeed thought it could be a neuropathy and took some blood for tests. I said, what is the truth, in that I had been drinking much more up until last year , had been sober for five months and sort of resumed gradually but nothing like the levels before ( granted the last binge was a 2 bottle one.. but they have been few and far between by comparison)...In the last two months I have been sober for over two thirds of the time) I am now beside myself with worry (which can in itself bring on all kinds of weird psychosomatic symptoms)...
My question is (for those of you who are sober) - at the height of your drinking, did you ever have pain/tingling in your feet and did it resolve itself when you stopped ? if so, how long did it take. if not , what is it like now ? .
I am terrified and can only help this serves as a lesson to all of us. This stuff is poison. Pure and simple.

I have had/have tingly feet and hands from anaemia which was not drink related.
A family member has uncomfortable feet and has been diagnosed with neuropathy and he has drunk about 4 times in his whole life!
'Neuropathy' can often be an umbrella term used to describe lots of tingle, nervy type pains. The best advice I could give you is to not google!
I used to be ashamed of my drinking.
My thought process was a bit like I didn't deserve compassionate medical treatment, understanding and empathy because it was probably me that caused the illness with my drinking.
The guilt I felt about my drinking made me feel irrational about any medical complaints I had.
Now I see this is complete rubbish and I see that now and I hope you will too.
Whatever your past you deserve good medical treatment and a pain free existence.
There are some really good drugs available now for these types of conditions.
You probably won't have to live with these symptoms like they are now.
The good thing for me though was I found that the longer I went without a drink, the less health niggles and moans I had.
I stopped obsessing that the pain in my side was a signal I needed a liver transplant!
That my fuzzy eyesight was not due to alcohol abuse, but simply cos I was tired.
That my sore throat was just because I was run down and not because I was on the verge of bleeding to death from all the drink I had consumed!
I am sure your doctor will help you get to the bottom of it and there will be better outcome for you than the symptoms you are experiencing now.
I wish you the best xx

I had many neuropathy symptoms and researched it a lot prior to quitting. I started taking B1, B6, B12, C, E, folic acid, potassium and calcium w/D a month prior to quitting and noticed a week into sobriety a difference. Now at 70+ days I feel good- no symptoms. It's a nutritional deficiency and alcohol does not allow the supplements to be metabolized well. After quitting the supplements worked well for me. Best wishes...
