a bit of nostalgia to make it through the day

So, today has been trying, hard and long but I decided I need an escape some fun, something different. I ventured to my storage locker on my apartment and found my old Nintendo Entertainment Center and 40 games or so and the duck hunt game. Found the appropriate connections and hooked the antiquated machine up to my LCD tv and bam it still works.

Getting lost in a piece of my history, its like being a kid again, playing Super Mario Bros, and Metroid. This is quite honestly the most fun I've had in sometime, I feel like I am 12 again and this is soothing my worries.

So, I am curious, what things are you all nostalgic about, what did you enjoy as a child? In recovery remembering where we came from, can most certainly give us a path to go to!

In my most stressful day, some relief and fun, can't wait for my daughter to get home, she is going to love Super Mario Bros, some 20 plus years later this game still rocks!

Have some nostalgia, I need a distraction, please share it?

TDG, stay safe and sober friends

Some of my nostalgia are old Hot Wheels cars. I collected them through childhood. I have a boat load. You know the old ones that have the metal bottoms.

I have since passed them down to my son (5 years old.) so we break them out and let the good times roll...literally.

Thanks for bringing this up as he has been asking me to play "cars" again lately. I think I just found out what I will be doing tonight. Today is my day one (again) of being sober so this should be a double whammy of spending time with my son and reliving the good times of the past and staying sober. Thanks TDG

I had quite a few hotwheels sadly they were all destroyed by me at one time or another or lost. I wish I still had them, my daughter too loves Planes Trains and Automobiles ( another shameless plug from my childhood, good movie, miss John Candy).

When I was sad in my youth, I would climb this tree in my yard. It had three "floors". My favorite was the second "floor".

Some of my most peaceful moments happened in that tree.
It was where I hid.
Where I put myself back together after rejection. And childhood angst.

Where I felt the best that Mother nature had to offer. Her absolute best.

Fresh air. the sky. rooted in the earth. Alive with bugs munching. And birds nesting. High above the problems of the earthly world. In the ether sphere.

Sigh. What I wouldn't do for a tree to climb right now...

Or some Donkey Kong. Or Tempest.

Yeah, Tempest.

I had an Atari 2600 and a Coleco too, sadly they are gone now, hmmm maybe I should hit Ebay up and repurchase some real fun. A VIC 20, I am in awe, I really wish I had one!

Tempest is an awesome game too, I had it on the Atari what a blast, wow I wish I was a kid again.

I play old nintendo games online sometimes when I can't sleep. I think you can play pretty much all the games that were around back then and for free. The nostalgia does have a calming effect. Reminds me of a time when I didn't have a care in the world.

How far back are we planning to go
as we relive our childhood memories
for fun? lol

I was born in 1958, soooooo....lol

We had roller skates with the little
key to tighten it. lol We had marbles
for the boys, Barbie for the girls, Mrs.
Beasly from the show Family Affair, we
had the playdough, Lego's, Army men,
pull telephone, Swhinn bicycles where
we clipped a card in the spokes for noise....lol

There was black and white tv, no central
air, we played hide and go seek in the
neighborhood till dark listening to the
June Bugs and Locusts, we went to the
ball park a lot to watch little league baseball
and my dad coach. I sat on the bench a
few time to keep score...lol

Drive in movies and food drive ins., and
a few other simple things. Nothing like
the computer age today and technology.

AAsharon90 how awesome is that, locust and June Bugs. I can picture an a bike with cards in the spokes rolling down the street. Roller Skating, key to tighten them, never heard of such a thing, lol. I am 34 and its funny the past and present mesh together in such a fantastical way.

I also think it's awesome to bring
the past and present together. I'm
hoping that someone even older
than I will pop in to share what kind
of fun they had back in the day.

It's ALL cool before, during and after
recovery.
