My first post

I have been reading this site for a couple of hours now. After reading the threads I want to stop more than ever AND I want a drink more than ever.

Hi

The not-wanting and the wanting at the same time really speaks to me! I hear you. Welcome, there are so many good, supportive people here. You've come to the right place.

Why do you want to stop? How are you going to stop? Do you have a plan/help/support?

Cheers, FC

That's me every day! I try to focus on why I need to quit and how quitting will positively impact my life.

Good luck to you - hope you keep posting here.

Hi PJane - welcome to SR!

For me there was no tippy-toeing. I had to plow right through the issue one hour at a time. While I was sorting through though, once I recognized that making a change was a great idea, not taking a drink was the best decision possible for each given moment. No need to have all the answers right away. Just do not drink and give yourself an enormous advantage. See where that takes you and go from there.

S'ok, Jane. A lot of folks come here without a plan. Keep reading and post all your questions. Everyone here will do whatever they can to help you.

The overwhelmed feeling is completely normal. It will pass as you get a grip on the changes you're going to decide to make.

Welcome, PJane. I am glad you are here with us. Keep reading. Post when you have questions or concerns. And, above all else, know that there are a lot of people out here who are willing to offer advice and support when you need it. The good people here have been largely responsible for helping me remain sober for nearly a year now.

Good luck.
