Day 1 here. Tough Day.
Hi,
I just found this forum looking for information on alcoholism and codependency online. I feel so lost and helpless. I guess posting here couldn't hurt more.
My mom is an alcoholic. She's been one for a long long time. She has also battled with depression her whole life. I guess they go hand in hand. She is also now showing some signs of dementia... specially memory loss.
I just don't know how to help. Nor do I know how to emotionally distance myself from it. Specially when I see all the other people involved (father and brother) who are even more hurt than I am. Everyone's sad. In despair.
I think I just needed to vent. Maybe I'll read more posts here.
Thanks anyway

Welcome beccamay.
I'm so glad you found us. You never have to feel alone - there's always someone here to listen and understand. I'm sorry for what you're going through with your mom, but I hope being here will help relieve your pain a little.

You are really not alone, glad you found us. You are guaranteed to have understanding and support on SR!
It must be hard to see your love one in a bad addiction. It's extremely hard but very possible for her to recover. Unfortunately she must somehow admit to herself that she needs help.
Be kind to yourself, there is Al-Anon that I heard is very good for family and friends of Alcoholics.
