The Usual Suspects

One of my favorite moves of all times is The Usual Suspects.

The is a line in it the says, "The Devils greatest accomplishment was convincing the world he didn't exist."

I was thinking how similar alcoholism is. It greatest accomplishment is convincing us we we are not alcoholic

I'm pretty sure alcoholism was created by the Devil.

Fantastic film . . . one of the all time greats!!

Deceit seems to go to the heart of addiction in so many ways, our minds lie to us that we don't have a problem, we lie to ourselves that we don't have a problem, society/friends/family try to convince us that we don't have a problem . . . and then when we relapse alcohol's greatest strength is that we hide it and isolate which can fuel our addiction even further!!

We're up against it from all angles!!

Yes! So true MIR. I'm consistently surprised how thoroughly I allowed alcohol to infiltrate my past and present life. Sitting alongside the water today, a beer was delivered for my husband...my hand reached out reflexively for a sip. Noi!! Eeek! Kryptonite!

Great movie and observation.

Yea, walking by the beer aisle in the grocery, watching people so casually put it in their cart, I immediately think, well he can do it, why can't I? I have to get the heck out of there. It's a constant reminder.

What a coincidence MIR - I've just started it - got it from Netflix. (Only took me 20 yrs.)

I love that line - didn't know where it came from.

Yes, I agree the line is powerful. I know the devil exists, I partied with him a few times.
