What's OK For A Recovering Addict?
Can a heroin addict, who went to rehab, drink alcohol and use cocaine once (that I know of) and not have a problem?
I'm being told by the addict that he doesn't have a problem and he's only drinking. But I know he at least tried getting cocaine on one occasi.on

An addict is an addict. If the addict can't get his DOC, he'll settle for what he CAN get. Sounds like your BF is just finding whatever he can to get high. He is NOT recovering. Don't let him convince you that he is. He's still searching for his high.
No, we are not saying that; at least, I'm not saying that. What I am saying is exactly what I said...

I've been through many addictions trying to fill a void within me.
I never filled it.
Things are a lot better since I started working on healing the void.
For me? that requires no getting high or drinking booze.

James - I suppose it depends on your definition of "OK", but I wouldn't say that it is OK for anyone (addict or not) to go around boozing all the time and sniffing coke. For someone to do that who is supposed to be in "recovery" seems like they are in serious denial.
Quick question though, you said that he USED coke once and later on you say that you are sure that he TRIED TO GET coke at least once. So which is it? It isn't OK even if he was trying to get it, but that contradiction makes it seem like you are jumping to conclusions when you are unsure of the facts.

This person is in YOUR life, not ours. So ask yourself this question: Is it OK for YOU to have someone in your life that is a "recovering" heroin addict that still drinks and does cocaine?
it's a lot like someone who used to rob banks for a living, went to prison, got out and started stealing cars instead. no a CAR is not a BANK, but that is not the point....the ROBBING remains the same.
he went into treatment a drug addict....now he's out and immediately starts using OTHER drugs. he's still an addict actively feeding his addiction. the coke will do one of two things....either feel like a good enough replacement so he'll keep using more and more.....OR it will just p!ss him off cuz it's NOT heroin and so he'll go back to that.
