Hi, I'm new here!

It's my first day of recovery and I just wanted to try and get some support from people who understand what I'm going through. I feel really anxious at the moment as I had a lot to drink last night. I am so tired of feeling like this. I can remember a time when I never used to drink and I was so much happier then. I want to get back to being that person and not the one I have become.

Any words of support would be very welcome. Thank you

Welcome to the Forum emerald!!

You don't have to feel this way anymore, you can get back to how things were before alcohol!!

You can do this!! great to have you onboard!!

Hi and WELCOME emerald13. You certainly can be the person you once were.
Plenty of support here. You must commit yourself to this endeavor. It is well worth it. Difficult in the beginning, but the effort pays off with dividends.

I am committed to staying sober. It's been a long time coming and I feel that now is the right time for me to do it. Thank you.

Welcome emerald 13

Hope you feel a little less anxious now

have you given any thought to what your plan is to stay sober?

Plan! It's a good idea. I have to actively and deliberately take actions every day to stay sober. If I just don't drink my power runs out but if I nourish myself with right action I grow stronger through grace.

Welcome, hang in there, it gets easier.

Welcome. You've landed in a great place. Over a year ago I was drinking heavily and using too many drugs. This forum has been one of the major reasons why I've remained sober. Welcome, keep posting, keep checking in, be well and be strong.

Attaining sobriety and the recovery process
is no bed of roses Emerald, we all know this.
But with the right support, you CAN do it!

Keep coming back, it has really helped me.

Well, it's Thursday and I still haven't had a drink. Still feeling anxious, although not quite as much. Tired as not sleeping well. I've been reading a lot of self help and positive thinking books, which have actually helped. I keep thinking about the time before I drank and have that to hold on to. I know I'll get back there eventually. One day at a time. Also, I'm staying away from friends who drink a lot. That is a difficult but necessary thing to do.
Thank you all who have posted to my initial post. I appreciate all of your words and thoughts.

Thanks.

Those first days are hard, but satisfying. If you are not doing so, a multi-B vitamin daily supplement might help lessen the withdrawals.

Hang in there!
