Don't know why this seems like progress

Right now I'm not saying any "I love yous" to my wife. So instead I just end emails with "thank you." Has been feeling weird and kind of saddening.

I found that it feels much less weird when I end the thank you's with a smiley face emoticon. Makes me happy to do that, too.

Respect needs to be established between the two of you before the "I love yous" can feel right again.

Baby steps will get you there if you take enough of them!

You're being honest with your emotions and that's hard for someone to do when you've spent years married to an A and denying what you're really feeling. That's a good step.
