A Book Every Recovering Alcoholic Should Read

The AA Blue Book.

Some of the stories are almost 100 years
old, but they still apply to today's alcoholics.
Once I started reading it in the hospital,
I couldn't put it down. It really opened
my eyes.

When I first got that book the first thing I read were the stories. I could sooo relate to all of them.

I still have my book and do look at it from time to time.

I found that I could relate to almost
every story in there. A tremendous
book, I am going to buy one.

I not sure if I'm missing something. Are you talking about the book titled Alcoholics Anonymous (The Big Book) or is there a separate publication called the Blue Book?

I read that book. With no exaggeration, probably around 500 times. Maybe even more. At least the first 164 pages. And I still can't memorize any of it. I agree, it's an awesome book. Not everyone feels that way though. I do think every alcoholic should read it, at least once however. Then at least they can know what they don't like, if they don't like it . That made sense, right?

A Book Every Recovering Alcoholic Should Read
Certainly anyone using AA as their chosen recovery method should read (and study) the Big Book. For those who don't use AA as their recovery program, the Big Book isn't really important IMO; although, it does contain some wisdom that applies to anyone who has stopped drinking.

This book helped me understand many things about my condition. It also helped me understand fear. Mainly, though, it made me understand that there was/is hope for me in spite of my condition, that of being an alcoholic. It opened my eyes and heart in new ways in terms of spirituality. Thanks for this post.

I read the entire book in my first week of recovery in April, 1986, and I read parts yesterday in my AA meeting where the big book is the topic on Mondays. It is called the big book because thick paper was cheaper than thin in 1939 and money was hard to come by. Read the first 3 words on page 112.
