A Book Every Recovering Alcoholic Should Read
A Book Every Recovering Alcoholic Should Read
The AA Blue Book.
Some of the stories are almost 100 years
old, but they still apply to today's alcoholics.
Once I started reading it in the hospital,
I couldn't put it down. It really opened
my eyes.

I read that book. With no exaggeration, probably around 500 times. Maybe even more. At least the first 164 pages. And I still can't memorize any of it. I agree, it's an awesome book. Not everyone feels that way though. I do think every alcoholic should read it, at least once however. Then at least they can know what they don't like, if they don't like it . That made sense, right?

This book helped me understand many things about my condition. It also helped me understand fear. Mainly, though, it made me understand that there was/is hope for me in spite of my condition, that of being an alcoholic. It opened my eyes and heart in new ways in terms of spirituality. Thanks for this post.
I read the entire book in my first week of recovery in April, 1986, and I read parts yesterday in my AA meeting where the big book is the topic on Mondays. It is called the big book because thick paper was cheaper than thin in 1939 and money was hard to come by. Read the first 3 words on page 112.
