Hi All,
Today is day 58 in my recovery from alcoholism. I came across this forum and decided to say hello. I am going to AA meetings and have joined a home group. I am looking for a sponsor but this is a personal thing so I am not in a great hurry at the moment since I want to find the right one the first time around. My home group meeting is tonight. I don't pretend that this will be an easy journey but all I have to worry about is staying away from that first drink today.
Cheers!
Dean

Ok, since you offered...one thing that I am experiencing is a rather complete vacuum now that I do not fill my afternoons, evenings, and mornings with alcohol. I feel that I do not need to be in a hurry to make changes but alcohol was a very big part of my day-to-day life. My number one method for filling this is going to meetings but I feel the need for more. Any suggestions? I have also take back up guitar and reading. The thing that stinks is that I feel that I have to nearly completely replace all of the people that I hung out with. The peril of this is that my wife and I have little common ground anymore.

I had to let go of a few people, places and things. At the end, I even drank away the drinkers so there was not to many people left.

Does your wife drink?

I threw myself into meetings. I also read on here a lot. A slept a lot. Getting sober is exhausting.

Interesting that you say that. I am exhausted all of the time.

Hi Dean and welcome to sr, 58 days that's great.

When I stopped drinking there was a big void, especially in my hand where a glass was in it most of the time when I was conscious at home. I'm also the sort of person who wants things done quickly, get to the finishing line. Let my life begin.

Instead, for me there isn't a finishing line, it isn't a race. I had to get to know me again, that's if I ever really knew me, and deal with all the things I covered up with booze. So I call them my baby steps, one set a time, sure and toward. I don't know where they will take me but I do know it will be sober.

For me it wore me out mentally and phyiscally. While my body wanted to rest, my mind was whirling. They were both wore out.

I slept pretty often and more hours than normal. Some days I felt better and others I still felt tired. It takes a while to get balance. Not only in your recovery program but in your personal life.

I put my recovery program first. I really did not have much of a personal life so it was no real problem ignoring it for a while. When I was bored I took my dog to the park. If I was lonely I called another AA member or came on here. There is always someone on here to chat or message to and of course plenty of threads to read.
