I'm about 24 hours from the 30 day mark, which I haven't reached in two years. I found out today a loved one passed away and all family is far away. I won't be able to go out for a couple of days. So here I sit. My first thought was to go buy a bottle of wine to numb out the grief and loneliness. I came home instead and am just feeling it. It feels terrible. There's a meeting at 5:30. I'm going to do that. I'm feeling all 4 letters in HALT and then some.

I'm sorry for your loss. All of my family has passed away so I know all about flying to funerals.

Nothing is made better by drinking. It will all be okay if you don't pick up. That's your only job. Don't pick up a drink today.

I'm sorry for your loss PamperingMe.

I think you're doing exactly the right thing tho - we're meant to be sad in grief...we get through it, and we go on.

Drinking just halts that process in its tracks and leaves us in a holding pattern.

Lean on the support you have here

D

So sorry for your loss. It is an honor to the person to remember and grieve for them sober with a full heart. You can move through the urges and come out stronger on the other side.

Congratulations on your strength. As you know, there will be lots of upsets and challenges along the way, and you're handling the first one really well.
Condolences on the loss of your loved one.
